Weezer – (White Album)

Weezer is out with a new studio album. Following the Blue, Green and Red album, they are now out with the White album. Their tenth studio album, but their fourth self-titled album named after a colour. Lets not start the argument if white is a colour or not. Lets enjoy the music.

The album starts off with their latest single “California Kids“. What I like about this song is the lyrics – when you wake up with cobwebs on eyelids, stuck in riga mortis – who has not felt like that when waking up? It is such a good description of waking up from a heavy sleep.
Listening through the album takes me back to the 1990s and early 2000. Rivers Cuomo’s voice is so distinct, I can’t help but feel nostalgic. The first song that actually caught my attention was “Do You Wanna Get High?”. Not because of the title but because of the tunes, classical Weezer. Getting high is like falling in love. But once I saw the title I got a flashback nine years ago to “Make Believe” and “We Are All On Drugs”. I see a pattern, kind of, not really. The whole album has a story though. The theme is California, L.A and the beach. “Summer Elaine and Drunk Dori” and “L.A. Girlz” are the rare diamonds in-between the stones of the album. The White album ends with “Endless Bummer”, a song that starts with the words – I just want the summer to end – No one, ever, wants the summer to end. The song is however not about summer. It is about a girl, who is to fast for him, and he counts his steps because he is OCD. Great lyrics and feel good tunes, even though the story is sad.

The White album is not Weezeer’s greatest work, but it is not their worst either. The album is growing on me.
